Nintendo Releases Super Smash Brothers Ultimate 3.0 Rather Abruptly

Nintendo released a video last night, rather out of left-field, that details all the cool new stuff that’s coming out for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate… today, actually.

But don’t take my word for it: check out the video itself.

If you’re too lazy to watch the video, or you finished it and have immediately suffered some short-term memory loss, lemme do some recapping for you: the video details everything that’s coming out in the 3.0 release of Smash Bros, and let me tell you, it looks like we’re in for quite the treat.

The biggest spotlight was afforded to the release of Joker, the first fighter in the season pass and the first DLC character who costs actual money. The video goes over his kit, as well as his accompanying stage, which looks appropriately zesty. This was also the first time we got a proper look at Joker’s kit, and lemme tell you… he seems a wee bit broken. He has a down-B that appears to provide unbroken super armor and damage reduction, a neutral B that allows him to do fancy flips while shooting a gun, a DoT side-B, and an up-B that, when properly charged with down-B, makes him untargetable.

Nintendo has historically had a bad time balancing DLC characters, and it seems like Joker won’t be an exception. That said, it won’t take us long to figure out how bad he actually is, considering he’s live now.

Other things to come in 3.0 was the leaked Stage Builder mode, which has a lot of improvements over past iterations, with the addition of moving parts and foreground/background elements. It also comes with an improved video editing suite, and a “share” feature that will let you show off your stages, videos, and photos with the world.

Oh, and some paid Mii costumes.

All-in-all, it looks like a pretty solid offering. Can’t wait to try it all myself!
