When Nintendo wants to make a big announcement, they don't wait for upcoming events or send a press release. They do what's called a Nintendo Direct. This is where Nintendo does a live video feed that details their announcements 'directly' to you, the players - hence the name.

Nintendo announced today that they plan to do a Nintendo Direct in regards to the Animal Crossing smartphone app. The event will take place October 25, but Nintendo wants you to understand the following clarifications:

※ Nintendo Switch, information on "Animal Crossing" of Nintendo 3DS is not included.

※ Information on smartphone applications other than "Animal Crossing" is not included.

* We will broadcast a pre-recorded presentation.

※ Broadcasting may be canceled without prior notice due to troubles etc. on the system. Please note.

It is surprising to see Nintendo dedicate an entire Direct to the Animal Crossing smartphone app, leaving me to believe the event will either be very short, or the app is much more content heavy than previously assumed.

While their previous app, Super Mario Run, is fairly content-heavy, it had a larger-than-average price tag (for mobile, anyway) on it. Their free games, such as Miitomo and Magikarp Jump, had the common issues of content drought and rapid dying interest because of the free-to-play system. As it currently stands, nothing at all is known about this Animal Crossing app other than that it is going to happen. I'm very curious to see what direction they take.

You can watch the Direct via the Nintendo Twitch page, the Nintendo YouTube channel, or via the Direct page. Be sure to check back this Wednesday to see what's announced.
