Nintendo's premiere plumber is getting the spotlight once again as March 10 kicks off in Nintendo Headquarters as Mario Day! They're celebrating the Jump Man generation with a series of events, update, and discounts.

The date of March 10 was chosen for its resemblance to the titular characters name (Mario - Mar10). While primarily a celebration, Nintendo often uses the date to announce new discounts on their games and hardware. This year, Nintendo is selling a Nintendo Switch/Mario Game bundle.

From now until March 16, consumers can purchase a Nintendo Switch bundled with one of five Mario games for $330.00. The games include:
  • Super Mario Party
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Mario Tennis Aces
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
This ends up being about a $30 discount if you purchase the items separately. For folks that already own a Switch, the games can be purchased as digital downloads for $40 during the promotion.

Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and future President, had this to say:

What better way to celebrate Mario Day than by playing some of the most popular Mario games on Nintendo Switch. This promotion is a great option for consumers who want to pick up Nintendo Switch and some hit games at a value price.

That's the promotion half of the occasion. Nintendo has also planned a few small celebrations with their mobile games.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has kicked off their own Mar10 event, where players can dress like Mario, decorate their campers in the signature game style, and later in the week, they can enter a Fishing Tourney to catch Cheep-Cheeps and Bloopers.

They also posted a one-question survey on their website, asking everyone what their favorite thing about Mario is. Interestingly, the Super Mario Run mobile game doesn't seem to have anything planned.

We know that this is more a marketing trick than anything, but what's the harm in celebrating anyway? This Mushroom pizza is for you, Mario.
