Nintendo Celebrates 35 Years of Zelda with a Game & Watch Console - E3 2021

Not what anyone was expecting, I'm sure.

Nintendo’s E3 presentation wasn’t… great. Granted, this whole E3 season wasn’t phenomenal, but that can easily be attributed to the impact of COVID-19, but all the same, it’s worth repeating that Nintendo’s showing wasn’t exactly filled to the brim with hype: even their trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 seemed a bit… meh?

But before Nintendo failed to wow us with that, they failed to wow us with another Zelda product which was announced a few minutes before that faithful trailer: to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series, they’d be releasing… a Game & Watch with the first three games loaded onto it.

...and that’s about it.

Now, that’s not the only thing on offer: they also added a remake of a traditional Game & Watch mini-game, dressed up in new Zelda duds. Plus, there appears to be a rather cool timer and watch app that are both useful and playable. But other than being a neat collectable for diehard fans… not a whole lot to be excited about here.

It’ll be out in November. Maybe it’ll make a fun stocking stuffer for the holidays.
