Nintendo, the Japanese game giant, has announced their next mobile game venture: Dr. Mario World.
In an announcement made Thursday evening, Nintendo plans to release a new mobile game on iOS and Android in "early summer" called Dr. Mario World.
Little is known about the title at this time. The official news release states that the "action puzzle game" will be developed in partnership with LINE and NHN Entertainment. It also claims that the game will be free to play, with optional in-app purchases, though the nature of the microtransactions remains a mystery at this time.
Dr. Mario originates from the 1990 NES title of the same name. In it, the player has to eliminate a jar full of viruses using multicolored pills. In that time, the game has been remade or referenced in dozens of Nintendo products. The original is also available to play on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Library.
With only a few months away from their desired release, we can expect more details about the game in the near future.
I've been playing Dr. Mario every so often on my Switch through the NES Library. It's a great puzzle game, but I can't get past level 19.
