Nintendo Announces Mario Kart for your Phone

Nintendo did more than tweet about their new Mario movie the other night: they also announced the next game in their lineup of mobile titles. As it turns out, it will be Mario Kart that goes on your small screen next.

Called Mario Kart Tour, the tweet wasn’t exactly informative, but then again, with a mobile Mario Kart game, I don’t really think it has to be. Most users will be able to put the pieces together themselves. Still, for the sake of completion, here’s what we’ve got:

The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.

So it’s still less than a year away. That gives us plenty of time to anxiously await what kind of terrible mess Nintendo churns out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m hopeful and stuff, but after seeing the loot-box heavy mess that the mobile Fire Emblem game became, I’m not optimistic about the odds that Nintendo won’t pull the same tricks here. And for a competitive racing game, that could be pretty bad.

That said, the tweet calls it a “mobile application” instead of a game. Maybe it’s something else entirely…?
