So the NFC figures we all knew were coming from Nintendo now have a typically odd Nintendo name. Also as expected, the figures are launching with compatibility with Super Smash Bros for WiiU... but also will have upcoming compatibility with Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, and a few other titles. Besides just serving as a tool to unlock content in the game, an Amiibo can also store data- which will give you a way to bring your characters along with you to a friend's house or tournament. There's also some form of AI character you can train and store on your Amiibo that can be dropped into the game as either an ally or enemy.

Along with the reveal of Amiibo, we also learned of some new playable Smash Bros characters. Players will be able to use their Miis as a character, with three unique fighting styles with customize-able movesets. Palutena from Kid Icarus was also confirmed as a playable character... boosting the largest female roster yet in a Smash Bros title. I also wouldn't be surprised if we get even more character announcements during the Smash Bros Invitational tournament later this evening... afterall there's 3 leaked Miyamoto games that they didn't even announce in the Nintendo Direct.
