Nintendo Addresses Lack of NES: Classic Editions

Someone explain to them how supply and demand works

Nintendo’s been having a bit of a problem with supply and demand. It started with the Wii, a console so popular it took about two years for it to finally stop vanishing off store shells. And, iffin’ you recall, it had a hard time satisfying customer demand for their ever-popular digital toys, the Amiibo, when it was first announced, even going so far as to publicly apologize for not being able to make as many as people wanted last year. Well, now that specter has come to haunt the Big N once more, as their recently-released NES Classic Edition, a retro NES console that has 30 of the best NES games pre-saved onto it, has also been flying off store shelves, faster than Nintendo has been able to restock them.

And to think they have money problems.

Anyway, they’re getting flak, again, for their inability to keep up with ravenous fans, and in response to this, they’ve taken to Twitter to address fans who are worried they might not get the retro console of their dreams in time for the shopping season.

The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year. Please contact your local retailers to check availability. A selection of participating retailers can be found

Reassuring? Probably not. Then, I don’t think Nintendo was expecting for this console to be as hyped as it is: I, for one, certainly didn’t expect it to sell out, given how easy it is to find most of these games online in one form or another, for free. But, convenience sells, and being able to support Nintendo in the process makes this lil’ $60 console a good buy.

Here’s hoping you get your hands on one as well, my fellow Nintendo fans.
