It's hunting time!

One of the big appeals of Monster Hunter World was Capcom’s promise that not only would the game not have loot boxes (which was only half-true, if you think about it), but that it also would have numerous free updates throughout its lifetime. And while we’ve already reaped the benefits of that philosophy with some free stuff, the biggest change is yet to come: because starting tomorrow, on April 19, Capcom will be adding a new monster to the game: one that promises to be far more challenging than anything you’ve ever faced before.

This new monster is no normal Elder Dragon. If you want to face this beast, you’ll have to team up with all sixteen other people on your local server in four-person teams to slowly chip away at its HP. Capcom claims it’s impossible to kill the beast, but you can knock chunks off its body for some seriously strong loot that can be hammered into impressive and dangerous new weapons and armor.

And this beast is so intense, Capcom is warning that anyone who tries to face it alone is in for a rough time: it’s been balanced for multiplayer, and the only way to get the best rewards is to team up with everyone on your server.

As for how long this limited-time event will be enjoyed, we don’t have any specific date. But if you miss it (or happen to be on PC), don’t worry: it’ll come back again in the future so you can try to hack this monster to bits as well. It’s also not certain how much of this thing you’ll have to knock off to get all the materials you need, or if there’s a hunter level requirement, but I’m certain all those details will become clear, in time.

Still, a 16-man raid in Monster Hunter World sounds amazing. Sign me up!
