Microsoft Reveals Halo: Infinite

It's a long ways away, still.

Often times, developers will save the best for last when making announcements. While this remains true, Microsoft made a powerful introduction with a short cinematic trailer announcing Halo: Infinite.

Infinite will be centered on Master Chief and continues the current storyline after the events of Halo 5, according to the keynote. It will also be using the 343 Industries' Slipspace Engine. While the trailer had little to show us in the way of gameplay, it gives us an idea of what to expect for the future of Halo.

The new game is described as the next chapter of the legendary franchise. It still is very much a work in progress, however. Microsoft states that the game, art, and tech engine are all still in progress and many of the assets and designs will certainly evolve between now and the release of the game. They've not been working blindly, either. Chris Lee, studio head of FPS at 343 Industries, explains some intended and upcoming features as well as how they approached the title on a design standpoint.

In the future, you will be able to join early flighting programs that will let members of the community play the game with us, and give direct feedback, much like the current Insider flighting program for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It will take some time for us to be ready to kick those flighting events off, but when we do they will start small and grow along the way.
. . .
The team also heard feedback loud and clear on the amount of time spent playing as the Master Chief in Halo 5. In Halo Infinite, the game will focus on the Master Chief and continue his saga after the events of Halo 5."

Halo: Infinite will be available for Xbox One and PC, though no release date was given. Given the way they speak about the development process, we have at least an entire year before it'll release. I guess we'll be hearing about it at next year's E3!
