Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Breaks Record Numbers for the Series

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is officially the fastest selling game in the Mario kart series. With a whopping 459,000 copies sold in the U.S. alone on launch day, it has surpassed the previous record of 433,900 that was set by Mario Kart Wii back in 2008. That's not the only surprising statistic that comes from the game's launch day sales either.

It has been stated by Nintendo that the 459,000 copies that were sold on launch day equate to an attach rate of 45 percent in the United States. That means the ratio of copies sold in the U.S. to Switches owned in the U.S. is about 1:2. Almost one in two Nintendo Switch owners ended up purchasing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on launch day alone.

In the 15 years that the Mario Kart series has been alive, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has the highest review ratings. It has a Metacritic score of 93, which makes it tied for the highest spot on the list with Mario Kart: Super Circuit that launched for the Game Boy Advance.
