Lord of the Fallen 2 Devs Terminated For Poor Quality

Lords of the Fallen fans will have to wait a little longer for the sequel. Defiant Studios has been dropped as the developers for Lords of the Fallen 2.

According to a report by Eurogamer, CI Games, the co-developer and IP owner of the first game, has terminated the contract with Defiant Studios. They were brought in to develop the title in June of 2018, where CI Games sang their praises as a developer. Their tune has since changed since they cited poor quality as the main reason for cutting them out:

"The termination of the agreement was submitted due to inadequate execution by Defiant [of] a key work stage (milestone no. 11), a so-called vertical slice. The quality of the work was lower than expected by the company, as precisely described in the agreement, despite three calls to improve the quality of this stage of work."

David Grijns, the managing director of Defiant Studios, insists that this isn't the case, however.

"The team that was working on CI Games' project was comprised of exceedingly talented developers whose work we fully stand behind. Our team knows how to build quality games as is evident by their key roles in Just Cause 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 5, Devil May Cry (DmC) and many other top tier projects."

Of course, few studios will have the awareness to know when their own work is satisfactory. Not to mention that even acclaimed developers can produce a stinker of a game sometimes. While we aren't entirely dismissing the idea of CI using quality as an excuse for something else, we find it to be unlikely.

All in all, this means that the Lords of the Fallen 2 game will be even later than expected. It was originally intended to release in 2017, but it was delayed after the departure of executive producer Tomasz Gop in 2015.
