In arguably the most intoxicating and intriguing moment of E3, Sony stepped aside to let Hideo Kojima himself set up the trailer for his next game, Death Stranding. The trailer is the definition of surreal, and words are not nearly enough to do it justice. The video is something that cannot be explained, only experienced.

Why do I have such a strong urge to question to validity of life itself?

Did you watch it? Can you explain it? Didn't think so. However, one thing is certain: Norman Reedus has given the video game industry another chance. This is fantastic news. No one could really hold it against him if he had waved goodbye to the industry just as Guillermo Del Toro did after the Silent Hills fiasco. That alone is something worth celebrating. However, the trailer itself is so haunting that it draws your attention. It has been hours since I first saw it, but I cannot get it out of my mind. The striking imagery of Reedus' character holding the infant, the sludgy hand prints, and the decimated sea life dance in my head. My mind wants to make sense of it, but knows to not even try. The trailer is a perfect example, I think, of an unchained Kojima. The eccentric genius of video games seems to be set free, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us.
