At long last, the hotly anticipated sequel to the original “Halo Killer” is about to hit the store shelves. Alas, all the Halo fan boys will all drop their xbox 360s and run to pick up PS3’s! The storyline revolves around the ISA and the Helghast. This time around, they fight on the enemy’s home planet which is set two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt.
The question remains, will it live up to the long awaited hype? That’s one thing I still wonder about. Sony has hyped the game for quite some time and they have mostly dazzled us with nice shiny screen shots and ultra realistic game play videos. Remind you of something?
I remember a few years back when I first saw the game play footage and my jaw dropped and then Sony admitted that some of it was CGI enhanced. Yawn. Well, several years later and we’re on the cusp of the games release. Do the graphics live up to the type? From everything I’ve seen and read, demo’s being played, etc, the graphics do live up to the hype but one thing Sony has had an issue with is over emphasizing that piece.
Sure you can have marvelous graphics but what if it ends up like Gears of War? An awesome single player game but the multiplayer left a lot to be desired. So far most game sites you go to and read the highlight list of the game features and all it describes are the games awesome effects and aesthetics but not much more. No one can deny the addictive play style of the Halo series, its rock solid and that’s why that community still continues to grow to this day. That's what the makers of Killzone seem to constantly compare themselves to and that's an aspect they should focus on the most, not the graphics. But the one aspect that will help Killzone 2 is the downloadable content addition that will deliver new multiplayer content and possibly single player elements to the game. We’ll see how that works out.
Final Thoughts:
Some quick observations from the demo would be that the physics of the game seem to be comparable to Rainbox Six Vegas 2 which isn’t too bad but nothing revolutionary so far. The aiming is a little off and a bit delayed as well. Hopefully this might have been improved upon since but I for one suspect the title of “Halo Killer” will finally be put to rest after its release. Overall, it looks like the game will have a good solid single player experience with an engaging story but the multiplayer aspect still has lingering questions but we’ll see how those are answered based upon the games popularity in the online gaming environment.
