He is NOT Evil Ryu, to be clear.

Capcom has announced the newest character to come to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Kicking off the fourth season is Kage, the physical embodiment of the evil spirit, Satsui no Hado.

Kage roughly translates to "shadow." While he is the embodiment of the evil spirit, he is NOT Evil Ryu. It gets a little confusing, since Ryu overcame Satsui no Hado in the General Story, banishing Evil Ryu. Now that the spirit is back, it's taken on its own form that is similar to, but separate from Ryu.

The Satsui no Hado is a recurring aspect of Street Fighter lore. It's described as "the more sinister aspects of the human soul, including the hunger to survive, destroy, and conquer." If a person can learn to control it, they become immensely powerful but at the loss of their humanity. Akuma is the premier example of this. This concept is the premise behind Evil Ryu, who would frequently return to tempt Ryu to evil.

Throughout the struggle between the Satsui no Hado and Ryu, the spirit gained sentience and formed its own physical form, now called Kage. It has only one goal in mind, to prove to Ryu how weak he is without him.

Gameplay wise, Kage still operates similar to Ryu, with some Akuma style moves thrown in with variation. This includes the Hadoken, the Kurekijin, and the Ryusokyaku. Kage's V-Trigger is the Taigyaku, which allows him to teleport. His V-Skill is the Rikudo Osatsu, where Kage launches into the sky to plummet down onto the opponent.

Kage is available now for either $5.99 USD or 100,000 Fight Money, the game's internal currency.
