Just Cause 2 was a good game that wasn’t great until the PC version got a Multiplayer Mod, which let dozens upon dozens of players join the same world and cause untold amounts of havoc. While Square Enix, the publishers, has never been a fan of mods--they tolerated the multiplayer mod because frankly it was the best thing to happen to the game, caused an influx of sales, and it was the kind of thing they didn’t even have to do themselves--it’s like getting someone to improve their games for free, why would they complain? Heck, before long, they made the mod “official”, and since then people have had a gay old time destroying civilization with their friends and strangers.

Then, Just Cause 3 came out, which reportedly had such strict and hard-to-crack DRM that it caused some hackers to up and quit their business entirely. Which is great for stopping pirates, but that same technology extended to mod creators, and there were fears that Just Cause 3’s strict DRM would forever prevent a multiplayer mod of its own. Fortunately, Square Enix isn’t stupid, and when a group of fans--Nanos--reached out to them looking to make a multiplayer mod, they emphatically gave it their support and let them go at it.

So with their official approval, Nano has been working on the mod, and it’s close to completion. Sounds nice, right? I’m looking forward to seeing it finalized, and hoping perhaps we could borrow Bethesda's idea and move it to consoles as well? That’d make a lot of people happy…

A boy can dream. But since this was just a dream until recently, well, gosh--I’ll dream away.
