Jet Set Radio Meets Mirror's Edge in Hover: Revolt of Gamers

Ever wanted to play a first-person Jet Set Radio on an Oculus Rift?

The Dreamcast had some of the most iconic titles and characters ever created by Sega. In no particular order it had ShenMue, Space Channel 5, Crazy Taxi, and my personal favorite... Jet Grind Radio-- one of the first console games to make use of cel-shaded 3D graphics. Jet Set Radio Future was a direct sequel on the original Xbox, but that was the last we ever saw of the series (aside from some cameos in other games).

In steps Hover: Revolt of Gamers. Fusty Game recently added the title to Steam Greenlight in January and received approval from Steam in less than a month. The game borrows heavily in design from Sega's DC classic, but with a modern first person mode reminiscent of Mirror's Edge. The developers have said their level design is inspired from environments from both Star Wars and The Fifth Element. Even more impressive is that the game is built on the Unity engine by a three person development team.

In Hover, the mayor has outlawed video games and you play the role of the revolutionaries to liberate the people and bring back their games. But really... it's an excuse to be a furry on jet-powered skates. This is more than just a knock-off by a couple French kids though, they just recently hired Hideki Naganuma-- who did the soundtrack for the original Jet Set Radio (and other classic Sega games). There's also going to be support for the Oculus Rift VR Headset, which is either terrifying or amazing (depending on how you look at it).

Unity is also one of the engines that appeared on the list supported by Sony's Project Morpheus, so a PS4 port of the game seems likely to happen if the Steam version does well. The game is currently only in its Alpha version right now, with no details on how the multi-player and co-op modes are going to work yet. As more info the game comes out, we'll be sure to report on it.
