The video, running a little under one minute long, shows the inside of a gun as a bullet is loaded. As the camera pans around to point out of the barrel, we see the spiral formation of the inside of the barrel. The shot, which is a direct reference to past Bond media showing the same perspective, is immediately accompanied by the James Bond theme song. A fire rings out and the screen turns red, now showing the words Project 007.
IOI is best known for their stealth action game franchise Hitman. In collaboration with MGM and EON Productions, they will be developing a new James Bond video game. According to an accompanying webpage, they describe the game as a new, bespoke origin story for the acclaimed spy.
Featuring a wholly original Bond Story, players will step into the shoes of the worlds favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.
Further details about the game beyond here remain vague or unanswered. They'll be using the Glacier Engine (the same one they use for Hitman), and it will be available on modern systems and platforms. But anything beyond that is a mystery.
They're also hiring more developers for work on the project. Those interested in that idea can go here.
James Bond media has been in an interesting place lately, especially in the last year as the COVID pandemic continues. The latest film has been delayed due to closed theaters and the last game we saw was a free-to-play mobile game (which was five years ago).
But if anyone can bring Bond back into the gaming mainstream, we have a fair amount of faith that IOI could do it.
