HTC VIVE has made an announcement today in Las Vegas about the popular VR system for PC. They've announced the Vive Pro, the Vive Wireless adaptor, Viveport VR, and Vive Video. This is the largest advancement made for the system since its release in July 2016.

The Vive Pro is a new Head Mounted Display (HMD) from Vive. This model is intended to be the higher quality option for those wanting the best in the market. The dual-OLED displays have a resolution of 2880 x 1600, about 78% larger than the current HMD. The Vive Pro will also feature an integrated headphones for increased quality sound. The new head strap makes it a more comfortable wear and improves balance. The front features dual microphones for noise cancelation and dual cameras for developer possibilities. Price and availability remain unknown.

Almost as big a deal is the Vive Wireless Adaptor. This adaptor will allow users to free themselves of the tether to the PC via cables. While products like this already exist, this is the first official Vive adaptor. Hopefully, that means it will be a problem-free experience. The Wireless Adaptor is expected to release in Q3 this year.

Another major update goes to the Viveport VR. This program allows users to explore new VR content, now in a VR environment. Users can also "VR Previews" of these games, allowing them to get a taste without committing to the game.

The last thing announced was an upgrade to the Vive's video player, Vive Video. Aside from UI and feature changes, Vive Video now implements Vimeo into its platform. A curated selection of Vimeo content will available to view in glorious VR.

You can read more via the official HTV VIVE blog post. I am most interested in the wireless adaptor. I'm tired of tripping on my cable.
