As youre probably aware, at the tail end of 2019, Netflix finally gave the gaming (and to a lesser extent, the literary) world precisely what it always wanted with a Netflix show that was both authentic and thoroughly enjoyable (The Witcher, for those who aren't aware). Reviews were good, people enjoyed it, and theyre hard at work on a second season, because Netflix, shockingly, is not opposed to money.

Well, HBO saw this and thought they could one-up Netflix, so they just announced that Sony and Naughty Dog are teaming up with HBO not to create another Uncharted movie, but rather, to create a TV series based off the critically acclaimed The Last of Us. That alone would be eyebrow-raising. Still, theres a reason to get your hopes up for this one - Craig Mazin, creator and director of the critically acclaimed Chernobyl, will be direct this series. Furthermore, the writer and creative director of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann, will be directly involved with the project. Thats a winning team if theres ever been one.

The former man had this to say about his new counterpart:

"Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I'm so honored to do it in partnership with Neil."

Meanwhile, Neil himself had this to say:

"From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last of US. Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn't think of better partners to bring the story of The Last of Us to life as a television show."

While it is a little disheartening to hear the director attribute the hard work of a giant team to one man, hes not wrong in applauding Neils talent. Hopefully, the two of them create something good.
