Have your Cat Officially Added to Minecraft

Do you have a cat? Do you play Minecraft? Do you want the entire world to concoct more and more elaborate ways to dunk your cat in lava? Then I have exciting news for you: from now until November 12, Mojang is running a little sweepstakes event that will enable you to get your cat (or a stranger’s cat) added to Minecraft.

Seem complicated? Don’t worry - it’s pretty straightforward:

"All you have to do to enter is take a photo or video of the cat you think deserves to be in Minecraft, then share it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #Minecraftcatcontest.  You have until November 12 to submit your chosen cat. After that deadline, the community team will use a highly-respected cat media judging technique called 'eyes' to 'look' at all the entries, narrowing them down to three finalists."

After three finalists are decided, the public will get to vote on which cat to add to the game in the upcoming Village and Pillage update. And that’s pretty much it. So don’t expect to be cashing royalty checks or anything like that - this is purely for fun.

Still, if you’re the kind of person who refuses to have fun unless they’re winning, Mojang included their judging criteria so you can optimize your cat to ensure a better chance at victory:

• 33.3% Is the cat unique looking?
• 33.3% Could the cat be successfully rendered into Minecraft content?
• 33.3% Would the cat appeal to other Minecraft players?

I have a hard time imagining there would be a cat that wouldn’t somehow be appealing to Minecraft players, but the first two points are definitely worth considering. You’ll want a cat that’ll be able to be drawn pretty easily yet distinctly, so probably one with spots, strange markings, and cool eyes. If you think your cat qualifies, give it a try. If you don’t think your cat qualifies, give it a try anyway. People like cats. Share your cat.
