There's been talk lately of Google entering the gaming scene. But only now are we seeing hard evidence of it as the company patents their own game controller.

A new patent has come to public attention, issued by Google and presumably in relation to the Project Stream gaming service the company plans to reveal at GDC in a few weeks. The patent itself shows a controller, short but wide, that features a D-pad, two joysticks, and six face buttons (not including "home" button). There also appears to be bumper and trigger buttons on the top.

The patent file appears to go into further detail about the controller and its communication capabilities, but it seems as if there is nothing out of ordinary for a controller patent.

Honestly, it just looks like another controller. It will hardly make or break Google's gaming endeavors. What will truly matter is the application of games on the service. We all remember the disaster that was the OUYA.

The header image is a 3D color mockup of the controller patent design by Twitter user @RepsUp100. It gives us a close look at how the final product might look, though the proportions look a touch off in my opinion.
