So, who here likes the detailed inner-workings of shareholder privilege and company ownership that comes with analysis and discussion of the top-level management of game companies? You do? Then great: keep reading and we'll learn the fantastic tale of how one beloved gaming giant, CD Projekt Red, scared the entire gaming world with one simple change in shareholder policy.

See, it was reported by those lovable scamps over at NeoGAF that in an upcoming shareholders meeting, there was an item on the agenda to vote on if certain shareholders should have a cap on how much stock they can purchase in the company. Sounds inane and harmless, right?

Maybe not so much: in the business world, those kinds of votes are often taken in order to prevent hostile takeovers, to keep a company independent and unable to be purchased completely by a competitor. And there was concern, expressed among the members of the NeoGAF community, that the beloved studio behind the Witcher series of games, acclaimed for their quality and fairness to the community, might currently be threatened by an entity that didn't share their values.

Fortunately, CD Projekt Red caught wind of these rumors and was able to calm their anxious fans in a recent interview with wccftech.

"As for the rumor, it emerged after the Board suggested introducing a voting cap during the upcoming shareholder meeting. However, the proposal is not a reaction to any current events affecting CD PROJEKT. Rather, it is meant as insurance against future hypothetical scenarios which may never materialize. We wish to safeguard the interests of minority shareholders in a hypothetical case where a major shareholder emerges professing a business and strategic vision which conflicts with ours."

So, if you were worried about a hostile takeover, relax: and if you didn't know this was a thing, then rest easy one bad thing that could have happened isn't.

We could use all the good news we can get these days, after all!
