Gamers who tuned into Sony's E3 presentation were in for a treat right out of the gate. The conference began with an epic cinematic score, a short announcement, and a gameplay trailer.

This must be coded with straight testosterone

The video started with a young boy in historic clothing playing with toys. He is called inside, given a knife, and told to hunt for food. A man steps from the shadows, revealing himself to be Kratos, and says,

I am hungry.

The crowd of professionals went nuts. We have been hungry for more God of War for some time, it seems. Many of us have waited a long time for this trailer. Kratos himself appears haggard and aged, but still in peak physical condition. We could expect no less of him. The trailer continues with a hunt, mostly from the third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective. It isn't long before inhuman creatures attack, giving Kratos a chance to show us that he's still got it. The action quickly escalates into a boss fight with a troll, showing us more fighting, spartan mode, and the fact that the old artifacts from the past still have use.

The fight finishes, the hunt concludes, and the trailer leaves us questioning what's to happen next. The final seconds of the trailer seems to put us in the shoes of the child: scared, vulnerable, and at awe of this legendary figure. He tells us, after long last, that we are ready for a new beginning. I, for one, sure do hope so.
