Gearbox Reveals "Top-Secret" New Game, Project 1v1

It's not that top secret, but it's still mysterious.

Gearbox is known for many things, and have released many games, but I think the only series that makes the company recognizable would be Borderlands. Which is a shame, they should really be known as the company who screwed with people via Aliens: Colonial Marines, or the folks who were responsible for the garbage fire that is Battleborn. Indeed, Borderlands, for as good as it is, just makes up one small part of their exhaustive, ever-growing library. And now, a new game is being added to their list: Project 1v1, a game described as "top secret" by the developer, despite announcing it over an email and making a website for it.

While details on this project are scares (of course) we do know two things: the first is that this game is going to "combine the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game." (so yes, we're dealing with yet ANOTHER CCG folks), and the second is that players are going to have to apply to take part in a Closed Technical Test later this summer, which will give lucky folks a chance to test out the game's three main modes:
  • Ranked, where players "Get matched with an opponent based on player rating. Win ranked matches to earn experience and crates containing new cards."
  •     Challenge, in which you "Challenge a friend to an unranked match."
  •     Arena, where you "Queue up to challenge the current Arena champion - and win to take their place."
You can sign up for the Closed Technical Test now, but there's no word when winners will be decided and the game will be sent out to be tested. Still, does this excite you? Or does yet another CCG make you want to roll your eyes out of your head? If you're the latter, you may want to sit the Closed Technical Test out...  otherwise, best of luck getting in, folks!
