It's more than just a map port, too.

We recently reported on Banjo Kazooie being modded into Super Mario 64. To continue this trend of putting other games into the Super Mario 64 "engine" is Super Zelda 64, a full recreation of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time into the popular platformer.

This mod, made by Kaze Emanuar, was recently shown off on their YouTube page. The video (seen above) shows off how it accurately portrays the Zelda game while remarking on the changes made in order to provide a better gameplay experience. Emanuar himself provides commentary.

In Super Zelda 64, the player (Mario) is essentially performing the role of Link, waking up in Kokiri Forest with the goal of talking with the princess. They then discover that they must travel forward in time to stop the evil Bowser. The world's monsters have been replaced by the relevant Mario baddies, and many of the challenges have been modified to become a comfortable merger between The puzzles in Zelda and the platforming of Mario.

Since Mario does not play the ocarina, there needs to be another system to travel fast. Playing without quick travel would be annoying in a game like this. For this, the fairy fountains have been repurposed to be a warp world.

Kaze Emanuar had their original claim to fame with the popular (albeit short-lived) Super Mario 64 Online mod, which would later be taken down by Nintendo. Super Zelda 64 is the most recent project in a long line of Mario 64 recreations, such as Super Mario Odyssey 64, and even Portal Mario 64.

Super Zelda 64 is not publicly available just yet, but Kaze Emanuar is keeping fans informed of the process via their social media.
