The biggest battle royale in the world, Fortnite, has begun their 10th season, known as Season X. And to kick things off, we have giant mech fighters, distorted reality zones, and a time-travel based storyline.

Let's start with the story. Seen in an official trailer, Jonesy is caught in an energy blast that erupted from the big glowing sphere over Loot Lake. He's quickly warped to a strange dimension, floating weightlessly as he passes by a plethora of various items. Everything appears to be items related to past seasons and events, such as the pirate volcano, the Christmas winter, and so on. In the end, they're dropped down in what looks like Dusty Divot before the meteor crashed down on it.

But what about the actual game?

Season 10 kicked off today, August 1. So all of the cool new features have been discovered. Fortnite even released a video showcasing what's new.

The new season and the associated Battle Pass have your standard array of items. The better you do, the more skins you can unlock, with the final lvl 100 skin being the Ultima Knight, an ominous suit of armor.

The biggest change is the introduction of mech suits, however. Called the BRUTE, these large mechanical outfits can be operated by up to two players at a time (driver and gunner). With advanced motions, BRUTEs can force themselves into the fray, using their improved armor and heavy firepower to their advantage.

The BRUTE has a limited health capacity, but players can use "Overshield" to spend 200 materials on a personal shield for 5 seconds while in the mech.

Weapon wise, players can choose either the shotgun arm, which deals 50 damage and has a size 10 clip, or the Missile Launcher, which rapidly fire 10 missiles on the target location.

Around the map, players will also discover new modifier zones. These areas, affected by the magic sphere in lore, change the battlefield in various ways. For some areas, you'll have reduced gravity, others will have a "no build zone," for example.

Epic does a great job at making their seasons interesting. Even their competitive scene is a bid deal. Their most recent World Cup is the most-watched eSport even in history*. All in all, we're looking forward to seeing what exactly happens this time around.
