Fortnite has its Best Month Ever, with 78.3 Million Users

And it's only getting more popular.

You knew Fortnite was big. I mean, you’re on this website, after all, so you must have some small interest in PC gaming and the big, popular, trending games. But it’s looking as if this game, which many had assumed was just a fad, is actually sticking around for the long run, because as we fast approach the 6th competitive season and the first year since the Battle Royale mode launched, Fortnite has announced that last August was their best month yet, with 78.3 million active, unique users coming online to play the game.

78.3 million.

Lemmie put that into perspective: the last time Minecraft had its own player base measured was at the start of 2018, and that was 74 million players. That’s not only four million players fewer than Fortnite, but at that point Minecraft had been around for almost nine years, while Fortnite is still shy their first year anniversary.

Let’s keep going. Back in July, a hole in Valve’s API allowed people to see the most popular games on Steam. And from that data, we can see that Fortnite is more popular than PUBG, PAYDAY 2, and Paladins, combined. It’s also got 28.2 million more players than the #1 most played game on Steam, Team Fortress 2.

Oh, and one last fun fact: this means there are more people who play Fortnite than people who have ever played Super Mario Bros, as that game has only ever sold 40.2 million copies.

And the fun part is, it’s only going to get bigger. Fortnite is currently on six systems and is slowly releasing over in China, which will add millions of players. Fortnite seems like it’s poised to conquer the world at this rate, and it doesn’t look like anyone is in a position to stop it.

What a time to be alive.
