Final Fantasy is one of the most popular and well-known RPGs of all time for a reason. It has a fantastic combination of gameplay, story, art, and music. Unfortunately, the man behind the music of several prominent Final Fantasy titles (Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX, etc., as well as the theme songs from Final Fantasy XIV) has gone on a forced hiatus due to poor health.

His name is Nobuo Uematsu. He is a Japanese composer. He was a member of Square Enix from 1985 to 2004, having composed for games like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. After his departure, he worked freelance for projects like Blue Dragon, Last Story, and Lost Odyssey.

According to a post on his personal blog made on Wednesday, he states that he'll be taking a break from working for the remainder of the year, citing health issues. This wasn't framed as retirement, either. Should Uematsu's health improve, he plans to return to his work. No time frame on when this may happen has been given, however.

We wish Nobuo Uematsu a healthy recovery.
