Fall Guys Charity Auction Ends with Million Dollar Bid

Where everyone is a winner.

So it was about two weeks ago when the Fall Guys twitter account, already a pretty hoppin’ place, got even hoppier.

See, ever since Fall Guys made it “big”, they’ve had dozens upon dozens of thirsty brands trying to hop onto the bandwagon by pitching their own skins. The KFC twitter pitched a skin around their mascot, for example, while Wal-Mart pitched a Fall Guy outfit that was literally just their iconic blue vest. The Fall Guys twitter then decided to capitalize on that thirst by opening up a charity auction where brands could bid for the chance to have their skin actually added to the game. The money would go to Special Effects, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of gamers with disabilities.

That was two weeks ago. Today, we have a winner. Or, rather, winners.

FGTeev had the lead at the final stretch, having pledged $510,000 to the charity in question, but then at the last minute G2 Esports, Aim Lab, and popular streamers Ninja and Mr. Beast, all pooled their money together and pledged a whooping one million dollars to charity. The Fall Guys folks accepted this team bid, and now all four proposed skins from all four proposed “brands” are going to be added to the game. How… wholesome?

I mean, the cynical side of me — which, to be clear, is an enormous side of me — is a little bummed that Fall Guys, the biggest new game in the scene for a while, isn’t doing anything like matching the donation. And no lie, the idea of playing Fall Guys with a bunch of beans dressed up like Ninja's and Mr. Beast's frankly hideous designs makes me sad. A million for charity is cool, don’t get me wrong, but it still feels like an invasion now that it’s all said and done.

But, real-life charity is more important than video game aesthetics any day of the week. So bravo to all involved.
