After a 24-hour long live stream by Bethesda Softworks, the game company has revealed the next game in the Fallout franchise: Fallout 76.

All we saw was a short teaser trailer, but the name was clear. The number refers to the Vault in which the game takes place. The video begins with a well-kept vault shelter. Mention of the year 1776 can be seen. It appears to be ready for a party, as streamers, balloons, and other party-stuffs are set up and strewn around the vault. Reclamation Day can be seen written on signs throughout the setting. Nary a weapon or monster can be seen.

As a matter of fact, the only living thing we see is a single vault dweller, wearing the traditional blue garb and a classic Pip-Boy on their arm. The Pip-Boy has the date, Oct. 27, 2102, on screen, while an audio broadcast says When the fighting has stopped and the fallout has settled, you must rebuild.

In established Fallout lore, Vault 76 was a control, intending to be released back into the world 20 years later in order to repopulate. With the Pip-Boy info, as well as the 1776 reference (the day the US gained independence), it seems clear that this will be about leaving the Vault.

According to sources at Kotaku, Fallout 76 will be an online game of some sort. with other sources also making claims of multiplayer.

A press release sent out by Bethesda said Fallout 76 is in development at Bethesda Game Studios on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Bethesda has its own E3 related press conference on Sunday, June 10, at 6:30 pm PT.
