For arguably the first time, the Entertainment Software Association has announced the dates of the next E3 event over a year ahead of time.

According to a report by gamesindustry.biz, the ESA, who hosts the annual gaming event, has announced the dates for E3 2021. They currently plan to host the Electronic Entertainment Expo on June 15 to 17, 2021.

About a month ago, 2020's E3 event was canceled after growing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in America. At the time, the ESA said that they would look into alternative ideas. The new information was reportedly shared with their partners, explaining that they would hold a new, "reimagined" event to make up for this year's cancellation.

The dates themselves are nothing surprising. E3 is almost always held in mid-June. What makes this odd is how early it was announced. Despite its regularity, the event would often not have a confirmed event date until the year it's taking place. We didn't have a confirmation on E3 2020's date until February, for example. It was canceled a month later, but that's not the point.

It's hard to estimate where the world will be over a year from now. With any luck, things will be a bit more normal and E3 can continue as usual. The event serves as one of the biggest celebrations of video game entertainment and after the roughness of the last several months, we could use something fun. And with its dates announced so soon, it'll be easier than ever to schedule vacations for it.
