Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has been out for well over a year at this point, and has enjoyed two DLC’s so far: Shadows over Bogenhafen and Return to Uberseik, both having taken great strides in adding new maps, cosmetics, and really confusing proper nouns to an already great and confusing experience. A third DLC, The Winds of Magic, is set to come out as well, but before that final expansion is released, it seems the folks at Fatshark have decided to add one more surprise addition to this game: they’ve decided to make it even more similar to L4D.

They’re adding a verses mode. Or, more exactly: they’re making a verses version. I think the plan is to offer it separately. You know, for balance?

Bah, just look at the video.

Vermintide 2 is getting a 4v4 Versus mode where one team gets to play as the special Skaven and Rotblood enemy types, working together to defeat the Ubersreik 5.

Technically, we don’t know anything outside what put in the trailer, but really, the trailer tells us almost everything. Just like the L4D verses mode, you and three friends/strangers will be teaming up to either complete a mission of Vermintide 2, or you’ll be taking control of the semi-powerful Skaven elites trying to stop them dead in their tracks. Each team gets a turn and the team that makes it the furthest – or finishes the fastest – is the winner. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect.

That said, there are still a few unknowns here: this is apparently going to be a standalone thing, but how much it’ll cost and how much crossover there will be between the two games is still an unknown. And will the rat-players have anything to do while they wait to respawn?

No one knows yet, but you can always sign up for the beta and be the first to find out.
