What's a new Gears game without a new game mode? Gears 5 will introduce Escape, a new mission-oriented game mode about deploying a bomb in the center of major locust nests.

Revealed at the Microsoft Xbox E3 press event, the cinematic trailer shows us what the new Escape game mode would be like, albeit with a bit of dramatic flair. We see a team of soldiers having placed a bomb in the center of a locust nest, and fighting through hordes of enemies to escape in time. It features a variety of weapons and monster we can expect to see in the final game.

It also features what sounds like a Crazy Train/Lil Jon mashup remix, but that probably won't be in the game. The official trailer description lists it as Let's Go (Clean Version) by Trick Daddy featuring Twista and Lil Jon.

I'm a big fan of player vs environment type game modes. I played countless hours of the Horde mode from past games. If this new mode manages to maintain the snuff that the franchise is known for, it'll be a hit.

Gears 5 will release on Xbox One on September 10, 2019.
