What a better way to kick of a Nintendo Direct than with a new Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC fighter? Don your sword, cast a spell, Dragon Quest's Hero is joining the fray!

With their sword and shield in hand, the Hero is another anime swordsman type character. Unlike the others, Hero can select from a list of spells and abilities that will aid them in battle.

In the trailer, we see a quick list appear over the fighter's icon, listing Sizzle, Psyche Up, Oomph, and Snooze, each costing a different amount of MP. The player also appears to have a max MP of 100.

The spells are different than the fighter's special attacks. Those were shown off as Bounce, a reflector spell; Kacrackle Slash, a freezing attack; Kaclang, a power armor type move; Zoom, a major recovery move; and Kamikazee, a self-damaging explosion.

The Hero's final smash, a slashing attack, will knock the enemy into range and summon an entire team of Dragon Quest heroes to strike them.

The new trailer showcases Dragon Quest XI's Hero, but the fighter's alternate skins will represent the protagonists of previous game iterations.

Hero, a new stage, and new music will appear as DLC for Super Smash Bros Ultimate sometime this summer. He will be included in the fighter pack, a 5 fighter DLC pack costing $24.99.
