Nice music, though.

So, if you’re any type of regular here on GamerzUnite, you’ll know I don’t usually report on game trailers: both because I don’t think they make for engaging reads and because I’m paid by the word and there generally isn’t much to say when a video is doing all your talking for you.  But today, a month away from the release of Dragon Age III: Inquisition, EA and Bioware have released a new trailer and I think it’s definitely worth checking out… and not for the reason you’re thinking.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.  First, the video itself.

As you can see, it’s fairly standard trailer fare: you get voice overs of characters talking about events and how awesome you are, you have the antagonist talking about what a pain in the rear you are, you have it all overlaid by an orchestral soundtrack, and lots of pictures of you and your party being badasses and killing the enemies that get in your way.

But you might notice something different in this trailer, compared to the last one Bioware released.  Can you spot the difference between the above trailer and the E3 trailer from earlier this year?

You might not recall this, but Bioware got a lot of praise from the gaming press and public with the release of the E3 trailer specifically because it was one of the first trailers ever to advertise a game with a customizable main character and opt to represent that character as a woman.   But in the trailer they released today, it seems they changed their minds, as the main character is unquestionably a male.  This was probably done to be representative of the fact that your inquisitor could, in fact, be anybody, but I think it would have been more impressive to have kept the woman and really flipped convention on its head.

Oh well.  It is what it is.
