DOOM Panel: A Recap

Curious about the QuakeCon panel? Well, welcome to our summary of the DOOM Panel with id Software! Here are the important highlights we took away:

Marty Stratton mentions that making a sequel to DOOM is "a huge responsibility." The developers have to take it seriously, but not *too* seriously. Hence the over the top actions and gore. The most important aspect of the sequel? It must be fun.

He also goes on to say that "You're trying these things that modern shooters aren't doing." For example, revving up the speed of the FPS to uncommon levels.

The prototype was actually fun and addictive. Can only imagine now, in that case.

With each passing day, DOOM feels a bit more like... DOOM. Take for example, a hit reaction or a sound will be tweaked to emulate that DOOM feel.

To best describe DOOM is this key phrase: "Push forward combat." Don't stop, keep moving, and run with your head chopped off! To describe it better is Hugo Martin:

"You feel like Bruce Lee with a shotgun on a skateboard."

The monsters and the weapons are diverse and so different that it will take awhile for the novelty to wear off.

The ability to crouch is there, but it'll make you a slower, stationary target. AKA Dogmeat (not to be confused with the Fallout 4 dog).

Nightmare difficulty is supposedly very... very difficult. Like... nightmarish even.

In single-player mode you can carry your entire arsenal.

DOOM will support modding, but mod-makers are still encouraged to try modding Snapmap.

id Software will not focus on eSports pre-launch, but they may consider looking into it post-launch.

An interesting question: "DOOM has always had one of my favorite stories in video games. When will we find out more about the depths of this main character?"

And an interesting answer: The story is blowing crap up and killing demons.

If you want to watch the recorded panel, you can do so at Twitch

DOOM will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime next year.
