In the days of PS Plus, Xbox Games With Gold, and Humble Monthly, there's simply no more room for more monthly game subscriptions. And we see this today, as Discord removes the free games with Nitro feature.

Discord, the company best known for being a gaming-centric online chat platform, tried to break into the game sales industry with the Discord storefront about a year ago. This included incentives for their premium service, Discord Nitro, in the form of monthly games. According to a recent announcement, this will no longer be the case.

"We learned a lot from all of you over the last year. Through your valuable feedback, it became clear that while we and some of you love these games, the truth is the vast majority of Nitro subscribers didn't play them. So, after careful consideration, we won't be hitting Continue when these contracts come up for renewal. The Nitro Games catalogue will be removed on October 15th, 2019."

Many folks have noticed that the Discord store is gone, with the Nitro service sitting where it once stood. This change was made back in March, allowing games to establish their own store option on their official servers instead. Their recent announcement to remove the free games with nitro only solidifies the company's decision to shy away from total game distribution.

Despite the removed perk, Nitro will still cost the same. Discord is currently working on ways to offset this, with features like increased upload sizes and streaming features.
