Destiny Gets a 7 Minute Gameplay Trailer, Dev Diary, and Release Date

Expectations for the game are extremely high... and it looks like Bungie might actually deliver

Destiny is one of those games that doesn't seem to have a name that was arbitrarily chosen. Bungie is a developer that has constantly evolved over the years... with each iteration of Halo making a significant leap forward. Everything they've learned making those games has lead to this moment of Destiny-- a game set on redefining what an online shooter can be.

The wait to get our hands on this impressive game is now shorter than most people expected, with a confirmed September 9th release date, and a summer beta confirmed to be happening after the game appears at E3 in June. In order to wet our appetites, there is a new 7 minute long trailer that shows off the Strike co-op mode inside the House of Devils' lair.

While watching this trailer myself I noticed (besides the gorgeous lighting and fun gameplay) that the music is quite well done and up to the standards set by Halo. This leads back to the unceremonious firing of longtime Bungie composer Marty O'Donnell a couple weeks back. That is definitely Marty's music-- which I hope is the case for the rest of the game as well.

Destiny is not a Sony exclusive, but Sony has definitely been pushing to be the system of choice to play the game on. We know from last year's E3 that the Destiny beta will be on PS3 and PS4 first. Rather than explaining Strike mode on their own Youtube channel, Bungie has a video on PlayStation's channel that basically breaks down the trailer. I would assume the game will function exactly the same on Microsoft systems as well.

As the beta nears, expect a full preview of Destiny here on GamersUnite.
