The Deadpool movie was quite successful, wasn't it? I mean, you don't need a writer on a gaming news site to tell you that, but it's true. It did quite well. And much of that success can be attributed to director Tim Miller, who helped bring Marvel's vision for the Merc with the Mouth to life. It should come to not surprise that 20th Century Fox is planning a sequel, Deadpool 2, but what may be a bit unexpected is that Tim Miller will not be heading this second adventure: rather, creative differences have made him depart the franchise, and he's now thrown his lot in with Sony.

To direct a live-action CGI hybrid of a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie with Jeff Fowler.

Sigh.

Unsurprisingly ,the idea is to make this hybrid CG-animated/live-action a family film. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, who created Golan the Insatiable, are the folks behind the script.

Tim Miller had this to say about the move, and his co-director:

"Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts. The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”

So. This is a thing. That's... that's cool. I guess. I mean, Sonic makes better movie material than Fruit Ninja or Tetris, but I can't help but cringe at this whole 'Live action' part. I'm getting PTSD flashbacks of Sonic 2006, the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, or Sonic X, or all the plethora of other examples that perfectly illustrate all the ways this can go terribly, terribly wrong.

Oh well. Maybe I'll be wrong. God willing, I will be.
