If a game does well, it’s only a matter of time before data miners start digging through the code for more details about the game… or hints as to what could be coming in the future. And with the surprise success of Apex Legends, it shouldn’t be surprising that data miners would want to pop open the hood and see what the future has in store; apparently, there are some pretty big changes coming to the game in the future, near or otherwise.

Of course, don’t take this as gospel as plans can change, so none of this can be confirmed until we hear about it from EA.

The first and least surprising bit of news is that apparently there will be new characters released for the game before long: specifically, two new fellows called Octane and Wattson. We don’t know much about them, outside of the fact that Octane has some kind of simpack-based ability that possibly provides buffs, while Wattson might be able to create electric-based traps.

Another unsurprising reveal is that duo and solo modes are in the works, in case you wanted to play without the help of two other friends and/or strangers.

But here are where things get a wee bit interesting: apparently the game is going to introduce team deathmatch modes, as well as a “survival” mode. The survival mode is where things get interesting because on top of not dying, you also have to earn the approval of the audience, which will cheer, boo, and clap depending on how you do. There will also be a number of different NPC announcers, which could impact how the game plays, and what you need to do to be a crowd pleaser.

Oh, and the mode apparently has a hover tank in it.

I don’t think anyone thought Apex Legends wouldn’t be getting updates, but it’s good to see that these updates are going to be more exciting than just new skins.
