Imagine developing a major hit indie game, going as far to even in a Game Award trophy, only for it to go missing and end up on eBay. Unfortunately for the developers of Celeste, exactly that had happened. But due to the good fortune of one YouTuber, the trophy has been returned to its rightful owners.

First caught by PC Gamer, the story begins back in 2018. Celeste had just won the Best Independent Game award at Geoff Keighleys The Game Awards. That was the end of the topic, until just recently when YouTube content creator PrestigeIsKey, found it online. They were reportedly looking online for a replica of the trophy, since they were big fans of the award show.

Eventually they came across an eBay listing claiming to be selling a real one for $500. The sale listed the item as from one of our liquidation sources, other than that we don't have any other information on the origin of this item. PrestigeIsKey placed a bid for $375, which was accepted.

When the item arrived in the mail, they discovered on the bottom that it went to Extremely OK Games for Celeste. They reached out to the studio to ask if it had gone missing, which was responded with a yes. According to the Devs, it was never sent to them after the award show. The two parties agreed to a trade: return the trophy and get reimbursed for the sale and be given some signed copies of Celeste.

While its not super clear how the trophy managed to get where it was, were glad to hear that it made it back to the developers in the end.
