Capcom Considering More Remakes of Older Resident Evil Games

Who could have guessed?

A few years ago, Resident Evil’s only real claim to fame was being the butt of endless jokes. Resident Evil 6 was terrible, the spin-off movies were hilariously campy, and the convoluted story that threaded the games together was as needlessly complicated as it was dumb as bricks. Capcom, backs to the wall, decided to reapply themselves to the problems facing the series, and came out with Resident Evil 7, the first Resident Evil game to be scary in a long, long time. They followed up this success with remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, which are closer to traditional Resident Evil experiences, but refined to be both revolutionary and scary in a way the series hasn’t been in years.

So it’s little surprise that Capcom would be considering more remakes of some of their older games. In a survey sent out to Asian countries, the company asked "If a new remake title of 'Resident Evil' series is released, would you like to purchase?", with answers ranging from a 1 (please no) to a 5 (please yes!).

Typically, this kind of survey wouldn’t be enough to get people’s attention (outside the fact Capcom has been crushing it as of late), but this survey launched around the same time as an alleged leak of Resident Evil 8. This leak is rumored to be closer to Resident Evil 7 than any of the previous games – that is to say, first-person, a reduced emphasis on combat, and a lot of potential for backstabbing from your favorite NPC’s.

So it could be that they’re not only gauging the interest in remaking Resident Evil (a remake of 4 would be interesting, to say the least), but also gauging what direction to take the next game in the series? Since they play so differently, I mean.

We’ll probably never find out the result of the survey, but we’ll find out Capcom’s plans… eventually.
