While Overwatch League is bringing thousands to its eSports stadiums every month in the US, Canada is trying their hand in the virtual playing field. Richmond, British Columbia will begin construction on its very own eSports stadium with the official grand opening projected for sometime in 2019.

It won't be quite the feat of filling out the entire Barclay Center for the Overwatch League Grand Finals, but it will fit 250 fans as well as a total of 40 game stations and broadcasting rooms. The new stadium will also include a gaming area for casual gaming among fans. This opens the doors to people of all skill levels that may want to sharpen their abilities. Furthermore, this gives the opportunity of coaching sessions if someone wants to master a character or class.

Although there might have been larger cities e.g. Toronto or Montreal, that appear to benefit more from this eSports Stadium, there are some good reasons for putting it on the western half of the great white north. It is close enough to Seattle that American fans can make a quick trip up; additionally, Vancouver, which is just north of Richmond, boasts a large gaming population. Finally, BC happens to lie in California's time zone, which will only help boost viewership numbers.

With the rate of eSports growing so fast, it is only a matter of time before more cities with large gaming communities upgrade with a shiny stadium for gamers. No plans or blueprints have been released yet, but look out for more news about this new pro gaming venture.
