Apparently 80% of Gamers Eat While They Play

Here’s a fun if meaningless little statistic to distract ourselves from the collapse and self-cannibalization of civilization. Did you know most gamers like to snack while they play games?

You probably did, because chances are you’re one of the 80% of people who do it, according to a new study put out by Newzoo for some reason.

Newzoo talked to folks from North America, Western Europe, and APAC – APAC having the regions where eating and gaming were most popular, with India (94 percent) and Indonesia (93 percent) really going at it. Across every region, Men were more likely than women (55 percent of men) to eat and drink while gaming, and unsurprisingly, it’s the 21-35 year age bracket that really likes to stuff their face while they play.

But don’t think they’re eating full meals or anything like that: the vast majority of people are merely snacking (with women preferring salty snacks while men had a more rounded palette), drinking (men really love to drink beer while they play, it seems), and getting some much-needed gamer fuel (at least, in APAC, where 26 percent of people prefer energy drinks while gaming).

So that’s… interesting, I guess. And now I feel weird for not doing that. I guess it’s never too late to start…
