Another month, another well-loved (if not exactly well-known) studio has shut down.

It was just announced that AlphaDream has filed for bankruptcy.

There’s a good chance you don’t know who AlphaDream are, but you’re probably really familiar with their work: they’re the studio that worked with Nintendo to create the Mario & Luigi series of RPGs, including Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. They also did the remakes that were later released for the 3DS, which usually included a lot of extra, noteworthy content

According to reports, they were about 400 million yen (that’s $3.7 million USD) in debt last year, and things only got worse due to increasing development costs and the decreasing sales for their critically beloved games.

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot we can do about it now. At least their legacy, their games, will always be remembered fondly.
