2K Confirms They're Working on a New Bioshock

Shocker.

It’s been six goddamn years since we last saw a Bioshock game with the critically praised and universally loved Bioshock Infinite, the story of an old grumpy dude needing to rescue a bright-eyed, intelligent and plucky young independent woman from both the forces out to get her and her own youthful need for independence. It starts like The Last of Us, it ends with dozens of copies of your daughter drowning you during your baptism to both prevent their own birth and stop the creation of a flying city.

It kind of makes sense in context.

Anyway, people have been looking forward to a new Bioshock game for a while, but 2K had been silent on the matter, and the mind behind the Bioshock series, Ken Levine, had moved on to his own studio, Ghost Story Games. So things were looking pretty up in the air for a while, but then it was revealed just the other day that not only is 2K actually working on a new Bioshock game, but they’ve been working on it for a really long time.

Turns out, 2K’s “secret studio”, a long-rumored thing, actually existed: called Cloud Chamber, apparently it’s the force that’s working on this new Bioshock game. We don’t actually know anything beyond the fact it’s existence has been confirmed, and that some of the talent working at Cloud Chamber – which includes studio head Kelley Gilmore – have worked on Bioshock games in the past.

So while that’s all very cool, it comes with one caveat: Kelley Gilmore has also confirmed that Ken Levine is not involved in the project.

"Ken has his new company called Ghost Story Games. From what I understand, they're pretty immersed in creating whatever great thing they're working on, which we all know something will come out of there that's amazing as usual. So he's involved with that and he's not involved with this project."

Will the new Bioshock game suffer without Ken? Probably. But it’ll take a long time for us to figure that out, since the game is very, very far from done.
