The Quest may make headlines for affordability, but HTC is here to hit home runs on quality. The hardware manufacturer has announced their latest VR headset: The HTC Vive Pro 2.

A direct successor to the HTC Vive Pro (which was a successor to the hit PC VR headset, the HTC Vive), the Pro 2 is an upgrade from the previous models in every way.

HTC Vive Pro 2 Specs:
  • 5K resolution (2448 by 2448 per eye)
  • 120 Degree field of view
  • 120Hz refresh rate
This is a mild upgrade from the Vive Pro 1, which had 2880x1600 res, 110 degree FOV, and 90Hz refresh rate. HTC also boasts about technological improvements like minimal motion blur and virtually no screen door effect. Otherwise, it sports all of the features the previous models were praised for, including built in surround sound headphones, adjustable straps, adjustable IPD, etc.

The system will work with existing VR setups as well, So if you already have the base stations, trackers, and controllers from the Vive or Index, all you will need is the headset itself. Thank goodness, too. The headset alone costs $799. So to get the entire setup, youd need to drop a solid $1,399.

Thats a pretty penny, but its where the technology is at. This rivals even the best in VR headsets on the market. While its not as affordable as systems like the Quest, its a tremendously better quality, has no battery limit, and wont sell mountains of your personal data to Facebook.

The headset itself officially launches on June 4. Interested individuals can find out more on the official website, where pre-orders are being taken. There will also be a full-kit version, which also comes with a base station set and Vive controllers, releasing on August 4 for $1,399.
