It wasn’t too long ago that Riot, as part of their 10-year anniversary, announced that they were working on a whole lot of new projects, including a card game, a fighting game, a Diablo-like game, and a whole lot of other crap – some of which isn’t even part of the League of Legends universe. It spoke to a bright and interesting future for League of Legends and their growing universe, but apparently, it was not a comprehensive show of everything they were planning to do, because they’ve now announced a second wave of new stuff they’re working on that will continue to blow up the League of Legends world.

And they’ll do it by doing the Warhammer thing: giving out their IP to other studios and letting them work their magic.

From their new website, called Riot Forge Games, they say this:

We’re a player- and developer-focused publisher; our mission is to bring awesome new League of Legends games to players by partnering with experienced and talented developers from around the world.

The League Universe and its champions offer limitless possibilities; by supporting and empowering passionate partners to tell their own stories and expand the League world, we’ll deliver a variety of bespoke games that enable players of all types to experience League in new and exciting ways.

We can’t wait to get these games to players and play them ourselves.

If you’re a developer and want to be a part of our mission, we want to hear from you.

There’s a whole lot we don’t know about these games, including who’s even working on them, but we do know that they’re apparently going to be single-player, story-focused games, by and large. They also seem to need to involve a League of Legends champion, which is putting a lot of stock in their iconic-ness but sure, whatever.

Nothing will probably come of this for a while, but it’s still good to know.
