The Ouya has had a difficult history. Once a heavily successful Kickstarter fund, the small Android-powered hardware promised a vast list of games. Unfortunately, the system just couldn't live up to the hype. Hence its major struggle.

Today, that may be about to change, as Razer re-confirmed its acquisition of the Ouya. So maybe this has been known for a little over a month, so we are assured that the acquisition is still happening. Here's a bit of a twist: the Razer only wants the Ouya's software, not the hardware. The company is also hiring the technical and developer relations teams.

First of all, Razer plans on integrating Ouya's games, accounts, and controllers with the Cortex, relaunching as Cortext for Android TV. Cortex will continue to support the Ouya hardware for at least another year. However, Razer will offer conversion deals to convince Ouya users to migrate to the Forge TV microconsole and Servial controller.

The Ouya brand will continue to live on as a games publisher for Android TV platforms, but what of the Ouya hardware itself?

My guess? Possibly drift away into nothingness. The hardware will remain independent, after all, but without the software, where can it go?

On the other hand, Razer aims to amp "up the work of Ouya to 11." So the library of games does not plan to fade away, but instead increase in selection.

Hopefully we will see a larger variety of Android games, but we know one thing is for sure: Razer will definitely take care of its fans, one way or another.
